Warrenville Youth & Family Services is preparing for its 20th Annual Bowlathon on Saturday, Mar. 13, at Bowling Green Sports Center in West Chicago.

More than 35 teams are expected to take part in the fundraising event that has become a friendly competition between area businesses, civic government agencies, churches and community groups.

The real contest begins before the event, when team members spread out across the community asking for pledges.

A team is made up of five bowlers, each of whom makes a commitment to raise at least $100 by soliciting pledges from relatives, friends, neighbors and co-workers. All donations are tax deductible. Last year, 175 bowlers on 36 teams raised over $35,000 to support WYFS.

The cost per bowler is $10 and includes three games, shoe rental and a meal. Based on the amount of pledges bowlers obtain, they qualify for team prizes and individual prizes.

Participants also enjoy a raffle featuring dozens of wonderful items from local businesses. There is plenty of room for new teams and individual bowlers. Lane sponsorships are available for $100 ($150 with company logo).
