What was billed as a battle of the titans turned out to be a total runaway Friday night, when Wheaton Warrenville South rolled over Maine South 44-7 in a non-conference matchup at Red Grange Field in Wheaton that saw last year's Illinois 8A state champion absolutely worked over by the 7A state champion in front of a national television audience on ESPN.

Wheaton Warrenville South and Maine South will become the first defending high school state football champions to face each on national television, when the two teams square off tonight at 4:00 p.m. in a non-conference game to be broadcast live by ESPN at Red Grange Field in Wheaton.

After listening Aug. 9 to flood victims’ questions, concerns and suggestions, the Warrenville City Council unanimously recommended directing staff to prepare responses and make them available at future public safety committee meetings as well as on the city’s website.

Approximately two dozen residents attended the Aug. 9 Public Safety and Legislative Committee of the Whole meeting. Several asked questions about the flooding and made comments about how recent and past flooding has affected them.

Fawell Dam Concerns Unanswered

Written by Crystal Lynn
City or County? Whose Problem is it Anyway?

Mike Hoffmann has been on a crusade for the past two years to stop Fawell Dam from flooding his property, but he said he feels like David fighting Goliath, as city and county governments pass the buck about who should be leading the effort.

After three homes he owns on Second St. were severely damaged by the September 2008 flood, Hoffmann began investigating county and state records concerning the dam. He also began attending Warrenville City Council meetings, seeking the council’s support to prevent the dam from flooding residents.

For the second year in a row, spectators at the July 3 parade enjoyed perfect weather and superb entertainment.

Mayor David Brummel described the weather as “wonderful, perfect” and the parade as “excellent” and “fun.”

“The crowds were so appreciative and had so much fun,” he said. “I had so much fun. Everyone I saw in the parade had so much fun!”

Mayor: Pending County Study Should Prove Very Helpful

Acting on the finance committee’s recommendation, at its meeting on June 7, the Warrenville City Council unanimously passed a motion directing city staff to recommend where to send engineer Bill Lindley’s Fawell Dam report.

Alderman William Weidner, who opposed the recommendation after Lindley reported his findings at the May 24 Finance Committee of the Whole meeting, was absent from the council meeting.
