Give Thanks by Giving Back

Angel Food at Immanuel is partnering with Warrenville Persons in Ministry (WPIM), Warrenville Youth and Family Services and area churches to distribute Thanksgiving meal boxes to 100 families in need in the Warrenville area. Our hope is that the nearly a dozen churches in Warrenville will join together to donate boxes. Each box will feed six to eight individuals. The order period closes on Oct. 28, and Thanksgiving boxes will be distributed on Saturday, Nov. 21, after Angel Food @Immanuel’s normal distribution. To donate, give your church $36 and note that it is for Project Giving Thanks. You may also order online through Angel Food @ Immanuel by Clicking here.

Chaplain to Speak at WPIM Meeting on H1N1

Dr. John Wilson, the Chaplain at Lutheran Advocate Hospital, will speak to the members of WPIM at its noon meeting on Thursday, Oct. 15 at Hope Presbyterian Church on Wiesbrock Rd. His topic will be “The Pastoral Response of Church Communities to the H1N1 Virus (Swine Flu).” While panic is not called for, he will present some very practical suggestions about caring for our congregations and measures to be taken if indeed some of the predictions are realized. Pastor Linda Tossey of Community Baptist heard him speak and said that he is not only entertaining and interesting, but has some good information. His emphasis is on communication and care of the congregation.

Warrenville Churches Offer Volunteer Services at Johnson School

Principal Derick Edwards and Assistant Principal Jon Pilkington of Johnson School invited Pastor Jeff Kamphausen to come and introduce himself on behalf of the Warrenville churches and share our desire to increase our partnership and service at the school. The pastor was delighted to explain the different opportunities that are out there to equip and send people from within our churches to serve. The need is tremendous for all kinds of willing people who can help kids with reading and math during the day, after school with homework, or mentoring on Saturdays. He distributed a flyer for sign-ups at Johnson that each pastor can feel free to customize for their congregation.

  • The Real Objection to the Pipeline Written by Connie Schmidt

Although there is concern for underground water reservoirs in Nebraska, this is not the only objection that environmentalists have to the Keystone XL Pipe line proposed to carry oil from Canada to Texas.

  • VC is Hypocritical Written by Scott Shaw

I am responding to, and have a question for managing editor, George Safford. Why is it okay for Mr. Safford to insult the Chronicles readers, but it is not okay for us to have an opportunity to properly defend ourselves? Your editorial policy is a disgrace to free and open speech.

  • A Letter to the Editor—And to All Who Knew Joe Voegtle Written by Jeff Carstens

Joe Voegtle passed away this last week. The President wasn't notified. There won't be a plaque at an Ivy League university. The New York Times didn't carry a single word. But there is a little corner of the universe where, for a time, everything stopped – a little town that could pass for anywhere in the United States; the town where Joe plied his trade, raised a family, and touched the lives of those around him.

  • How Do We Stop the Horn Blowing? Written by Rich and Ellen Kurowski

Why not do something constructive with the excess railroad funds? How about hiring a lawyer, familiar with dealing with railroad problems, to get the trains to stop blowing their horns?
