Alderman Robert Wilson, who grew up in a small town where everyone knew each other and helping neighbors was a way of life, told the Village Chronicles June 24 that he plans to use his community-oriented upbringing to serve Warrenville.

“Throughout my life, I have tried to find ways to help others less fortunate and to share my time and talents with my community,” he said.

Wilson was sworn in as a Ward 2 alderman at the June 21 city council meeting, replacing Dave Schultz .

His business career began after he served four years in the U.S. Air force between 1951-1954 and attended Temple University from 1955-1960 where he received an associate’s degree in electronic technology and a bachelor’s of science degree in business administration/marketing.

He has worked in industrial sales at Burroughs Corporation, Pittsburgh Corning, and Video Logic Corporation. He said his business experience “with engineering and architectural firms in production application and installation on job sites” will help him to “better understand and make decisions about city issues.”

Co-founding All Saints Anglican Church in 1996 tops the list of his volunteer religious experience. He has also served as treasurer, deacon and director of the outreach program. Additionally, he has volunteered at Habitat for Humanity, Feed My Starving Children, Woodridge Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels, Acorn Van and Kiwanis.

He is certain about using his business knowledge and religious and humanitarian experiences to serve Warrenville, “I want to do all that I can to keep Warrenville on a path that continues to keep a good balance both commercially and residentially.”

But he is uncertain about seeking election in November, “My experiences in the next few months will determine whether or not I will be a candidate.”

In he meantime, he said he looks “forward to the opportunity to serve the City of Warrenville and its people to the best of my abilities.”

He and his wife Marcia live in Warrenville Lakes. They have eight children, 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren—with another one on the way.

  • Bright Future for Cenacle Property Written by Jim Kleinwachter

I have read the thoughts of some other readers on the appearance of the Cenacle property,  and I felt the need to add my views. The [DuPage County Forest Preserve District] is in the process of naturalizing the property. For hundreds of years the Cenacle property was an Oak Savannah. At some point [not too long ago], the landscape under the Oak trees became mowed grass.

  • The Mayor and Fawell Dam Written by Ronald J. Lisowski, Jr.

My family and I moved to Warrenville in late June of 2010. I have read the two articles regarding Fawell Dam (“Fawell Dam Concerns Unanswered,” by Crystal Lynn, 7/9/2010; and, “Village Chronicles Article is Incomplete and Inaccurate,” by David L. Brummel, Mayor, 7/23/2010). I also read the article by Mayor Brummel regarding his former big red truck.

  • Flood Problem: Unanswered Questions and Not Enough Help Written by Mary Joe Huber

At the somewhat confrontational city council meeting on Aug. 2 concerning the frequent flooding of the river in Warrenville, Mayor Brummel stated several times that citizens should get their questions in by that Friday and they would be answered at the meeting the following Monday.

  • When It Comes to the Cenacle Property, the Forest Preserve Is On the Right Track Written by Gary Davis

Over the past few months, I have seen a number of instances in this paper where individuals have not been happy with the forest preserve’s handling of the former Cenacle property. I'd like to voice my support of what it is doing.

  • Fawell Dam Impedes Warrenville Drainage Written by Michael Hoffmann

When I bought my property in 1985, it was not in a flood plain. It became flood plain in 2003. FEMA never notified me of this; I found out through a realtor. Having flood plain on my property has devastated its value.
