Holiday Season Offers Many Options

In-depth Journal Method Offered Nov. 13 and 14 at the Wheaton Franciscan Tau Center. Sr. Joyce Kemp is leading a Life Context Intensive Journal Workshop at the Tau Center in Wheaton Nov. 13 and 14. The program will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.on  both days. Fee is $175.

Sr. Kemp has been leading the Intensive Journal Workshops created by Dr. Ira Progoff since 1982. She met at Dr. Progoff at the Longwood Cenacle south of Chicago in the early 1970s when he came to lead one of his workshops there at the invitation of Sr. Irene Dugan, r.c.

Dr. Progoff wrote his doctoral dissertation on the social meaning of the psychology of Dr. C.J. Jung and was invited by Dr. Jung to study with him in Switzerland in the early 1950s. In the 1960s, Dr. Progoff created the Intensive Journal to help ordinary people to develop their potential and to discover their purpose in life.

Sr. Kemp, in working with the process, discovered a way to pay attention to her inner life in a way she had not been able to do through prayer and meditation. The Journal is a form of written meditation, helping one to discover his or her own deep wisdom. Gradually a clear sense of one’s life-calling emerges.

In 1980, Sr. Dugan invited Sr. Kemp to become a leader of Journal workshops, and she has held them all over North America since 1982.

The Tau Center

The Wheaton Franciscans have remodeled the former Provincial offices on their Roosevelt Rd. campus to serve as a place for spiritual ministry. Fulfilling their passion for transformative spiritual growth and healing, they have named it the Tau Center, a symbol that St. Francis used as a mark of God’s favor and blessing. The Tau is a cross that is shaped like a “T.” To see more about the Tau Center, go to www.taucenter.org.

Sr. Kemp’s Life Context Workshop fits perfectly into the Tau Center mission. The quiet beauty and hospitality of the center supports the search for greater meaning in life and a deeper relationship with God, others, self, and all creation.

The workshop is being offered at a reduced rate to enable more people to attend. Participants can bring a bag lunch or eat at nearby restaurants. Those who need overnight accommodations can find them nearby in Carol Stream, Warrenville and other suburbs.

For more information and to register, call Dialogue House Associates at (800) 221-5844.

ESSE sponsors an Adult Day Care center at Community Baptist Church, 28w444 Main St. It is a non- profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to serving seniors and their caregivers.

The Latin word “esse,” meaning “to be,” defines its purpose to acknowledge and support continuing life, growth and fruitfulness throughout one’s lifetime.

ESSE provides a safe, cheerful environment for adults who are socially isolated, memory impaired, frail or moderately handicapped. ESSE provides them with the opportunity to stay active and connect with new friends.

A dedicated staff engages participants in supervised cognitive and physical activities, including arts and crafts, music, mentally stimulating games, gentle exercise, discussion groups, and special celebrations.

  • HIV Self-Testing Symposiums to be Held in Wheaton May 3, 5 Written by Brad Ogilvie

In the very near future, the Food and Drug Administration may approve over-the-counter sale of rapid HIV-tests. This would be the first significant change in either policy or technology in the fight against HIV since the introduction of effective treatments more than 15 years ago.

  • Election Day Cowardice Written by Pam Gallagher

Tuesday evening, March 20, after completing a long tiring day as a democratic election judge from 5:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Johnson School, I walked out to my car in the parking lot and sadly discovered two 1.5" x 3" business cards left on the right and left door windows of my vehicle with the Obama campaign logo and the printed words: "Hi, I saw your Obama sticker and I want to thank you for letting the village know who the idiot is."

  • Wrongful Dirt Removal Written by Michael Hoffmann

The thorium cleanup along the West Branch of the DuPage River reached my property last fall. I was hesitant to let around a dozen beautiful trees be taken out, but I believed in the greater good of removing thorium from this area, including my property.
