Ariya, Thai Restaurant

2s535 Route 59 (Warrenville) (630) 836-9774

Monday thru Friday 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday 4:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Possibly some of the prettiest food in town can be found at Ariya’s. The food is served artistically arranged on the plate and accented precisely with hints of the ingredients.

The restaurant opened under new management earlier this year and offers an extensive menu, including 14 different lunch specials for $6.99 that are served with soup of the day and choice of a fresh spring roll, egg roll, cucumber salad or Crab Rangoon. acornlisting

Often Thai is lumped in with Chinese and thought of as rather like chop suey, but the flavors are unique here, so read the menu descriptions and share around the table to sample different sauces. The wait staff was very helpful in navigating the menu.

The selections are designated as spicy on the menu by a pepper, but seemed to vary greatly in the degree of “hotness.” The soup was on the high side of hot, but an entree seemed barely hot at all. Ask how hot a given dish is and adjust up or down according to taste.

The Pad Thai, stir fried flat thin rice noodles with tofu, bean sprouts, green onion and egg in a delicious tamarind sauce, was topped with lime and crushed peanuts so that the nutty flavor could be stirred in rather than just whole peanuts. The flavors were fresh and robust.

The bright lively decor lends itself to a special occasion or to making an everyday lunch feel like a bright spot in your day. In the mall with the hardware store, the launder mat that washes your special things, a dollar store, the resale shop, lunch at Ariya lends itself well to combining errands with lunching out.

Aryia is awarded three acorns (out of four).

  • HIV Self-Testing Symposiums to be Held in Wheaton May 3, 5 Written by Brad Ogilvie

In the very near future, the Food and Drug Administration may approve over-the-counter sale of rapid HIV-tests. This would be the first significant change in either policy or technology in the fight against HIV since the introduction of effective treatments more than 15 years ago.

  • Election Day Cowardice Written by Pam Gallagher

Tuesday evening, March 20, after completing a long tiring day as a democratic election judge from 5:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Johnson School, I walked out to my car in the parking lot and sadly discovered two 1.5" x 3" business cards left on the right and left door windows of my vehicle with the Obama campaign logo and the printed words: "Hi, I saw your Obama sticker and I want to thank you for letting the village know who the idiot is."

  • Wrongful Dirt Removal Written by Michael Hoffmann

The thorium cleanup along the West Branch of the DuPage River reached my property last fall. I was hesitant to let around a dozen beautiful trees be taken out, but I believed in the greater good of removing thorium from this area, including my property.
