Chamber Corner

The Warrenville Chamber of Commerce has had to make some tough decisions, but they are the correct ones. We are moving forward. As an organization, we continue to focus on helping the Warrenville business community remain strong.

Our 2010 Board Chairman, Andrew Carman (Edward Jones) put it this way. “We will focus on promoting the economic development of businesses in Warrenville for everyone’s benefit”

The chamber continues to be here to support Warrenville events for the residents and the community, but it will do this by working more with other organizations and not handling events alone. The board of directors and the president/CEO will focus more on finding ways to improve the business environment and on helping local businesses grow.

We would like to hear from all of our local businesses concerning the areas they feel need to be addressed. How do they see the chamber helping them? As president and CEO of the chamber, I would like to ask each of you when I contact you to be willing to meet with me and share your needs and ideas for improving the business community. Only by conveying to us your thoughts, needs and desires can we all get on the same page.

Let’s work together to make Warrenville the best business community it can be.

Holly Days

Mark your calendars. Holly Days is fast approaching. The date this year is Dec. 4. We are all looking forward to this event. It is one of my favorites!

Thanks go out to the following chamber members: McDonald’s provides yummy hot chocolate, Country Inn and Suites provides delicious cookies, Family Foods Bobak’s piping hot coffee.

Premiums Plus Promotional Products, Inc. will keep the fire pits going, Naperville Mulch will provide the fire wood, and NorthStar Credit Union provides Santa and candy canes.

The park district and the city are putting together the holiday parade, carriage rides and lots of singing from different groups in the community.

Mark your calendar. You won’t want to miss this great free family event!

Business After Hours

Dec. 16 at Family Foods. Great opportunity to attend a chamber function and network with other businesses.

Join us for a wine tasting and refreshments. Paul and Phil Salerno know how to put on a nice party!

Discount coupons available. Watch for more details coming soon.

Thank you to all of our loyal chamber members for showing continued support by being a part of our chamber and renewing your memberships. Together, we can make a difference!

  • The Real Objection to the Pipeline Written by Connie Schmidt

Although there is concern for underground water reservoirs in Nebraska, this is not the only objection that environmentalists have to the Keystone XL Pipe line proposed to carry oil from Canada to Texas.

  • VC is Hypocritical Written by Scott Shaw

I am responding to, and have a question for managing editor, George Safford. Why is it okay for Mr. Safford to insult the Chronicles readers, but it is not okay for us to have an opportunity to properly defend ourselves? Your editorial policy is a disgrace to free and open speech.

  • A Letter to the Editor—And to All Who Knew Joe Voegtle Written by Jeff Carstens

Joe Voegtle passed away this last week. The President wasn't notified. There won't be a plaque at an Ivy League university. The New York Times didn't carry a single word. But there is a little corner of the universe where, for a time, everything stopped – a little town that could pass for anywhere in the United States; the town where Joe plied his trade, raised a family, and touched the lives of those around him.

  • How Do We Stop the Horn Blowing? Written by Rich and Ellen Kurowski

Why not do something constructive with the excess railroad funds? How about hiring a lawyer, familiar with dealing with railroad problems, to get the trains to stop blowing their horns?
