Get Out There!

More and more people deciding to commute to and from work on their bicycles this year. Sadly, this is likely due to the nearly $4-per-gallon price of gasoline, rather than to any large-scale fitness program.

But for those of us not riding our bikes to work each day, here are some suggestions of organized “invitational” rides that may serve as enjoyable trade offs, when it comes to exercise.

Most of the rides charge modest fees. I have included these, along with mileage options and contact information.

The rides are sponsored by bike clubs and various charitable organizations, and can be a lot of fun and a great way to meet other bicyclists. So, get your calendar and start planning before the riding season eludes you.

  • Wrongful Dirt Removal Written by Michael Hoffmann

    The thorium cleanup along the West Branch of the DuPage River reached my property last fall. I was hesitant to let around a dozen beautiful trees be taken out, but I believed in the greater good of removing thorium from this area, including my property.
