He was an internationally recognized authority on blood vessel mechanics. He had 155 scientific publications and was editor for three textbooks about blood vessels.
Philip had a wonderful sense of humor and was an excellent teller of stories and jokes. He was an accomplished amateur photographer. His knowledge of classical music was phenomenal.
Philip was talented, knowledgeable, inquisitive, and keen to share his ideas with others. He made many friends because he was sincerely interested in what others had to say.
For much of his career he was a professor of physiology and surgery at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine,

He and his wife traveled extensively and in retirement, he wrote a book, Adventures of a Surgical Resident, and published several short stories.
Philip is survived by his wife of 28 years, Joan Mathews, children Lise Dobrin (Ira Bashkow), John Dobrin (Cherisse Chateauvert) and Laura Dobrin, grandchildren Ellie, Hannah, Ross and Glen, and sister Bev Tepper.
