The initiative began Monday, Nov. 7, and runs through winter every Monday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
On the first volunteer day, the focus was on removing invasive honeysuckle from the woodland. The plants could be easily identified as they were the only ones with bright green leaves remaining.
Enormous help came from Corona Tools who supplied six saws and six loppers to help the team with this project. This is part of the company’s Corona Cares Program that helps groups all over the country make a difference for the natural environment.
FNA is looking for more helpers. No prior experience is required to participate. Volunteers are asked to wear sturdy boots and dress for the weather. In case of bad weather, the team will process and mix native seeds from the property indoors.

FermiLab Natural Areas is a not-for-profit organization concerned about the 6,800-acre campus next door to Warrenville.
The property is an astounding natural garden filled with lakes, woodlands, native oak savannah prairie, a marsh, and much more. FNA’s mission is to maintain and help preserve these natural areas.
