SAY NO TO THE CITY OF WARRENVILLE GARDEN TAX! This month I was informed that the City of Warrenville is imposing an ordinance agreement with homeowners who have landscaping on city easement property around the city. It is called the Landscape License and Covenant Agreement. According to Warrenville’s Code Enforcement Officer it is a recently formed city wide ordinance, all residents in Warrenville, Illinois who have any landscaping  on easement property will be asked to sign the agreement and pay the fee, giving Warrenville control over what is put on your easement property. The fee is currently $35 to the city and approximately $40 to the county.

Congratulations Warrenville Penquins! Congratulations Warrenville Penquins!

The 2011-12 Quad City seventh and eighth Grade Girls Basketball League concluded its tournament and season Jan. 8 at Glenbard North High School, and the Warrenville Penguins finished the season undefeated at 12-0.

The Penguins defeated teams from Winfield, Carol Stream and Aurora to win the QCGBL Championship.

The team consisted of Kayla Condon (season total of 55 points and 46 steals), Bri Lehman (25 assists, 47 points and three 3 point field goals made), Janay Bell (20 rebounds and 21 steals), Nadia Ermer (averaged over 5 rebounds a game), Laura Seiberlich (48 steals, 28 blocked shots, averaged 10 points and 9.8 rebounds per game), Emma Misener (started 10 games and averaged less than 1 turnover per game), and Carina Elvira (40 points and 49 rebounds). Also making valuable contributions were Rachel and Ellen Seiberlich, Declin Ermer, Evan Misener and Derek Lehman.

All season long, the girls worked hard to improve their individual and team skills and to overcome every hurdle.

In the semi finals, the Penguins played the Winfield Maroon team and only led by two points at half time. By the end of the third quarter, Warrenville had increased its lead to seven, and went on to win 30-23.

The Penguins faced Winfield White in the Championship game. The starters (Bri Lehman, Kayla Condon, Laura Seiberlich, Carina Elvira, and Emma Misener) set the tone for the game, holding Winfield scoreless in the first quarter and cruising to a 20-9 win.

  • A Reader Begs to Differ Written by Linda Pille

In her latest column, Bobbie Mignin writes that she needs a clue before the election. I agree. She opines that President Obama has “not a good record”, and implies that he has accomplished little during this term with no solid plans for the future. A minimal amount of research would have clued her into a more accurate reflection of the president’s record.

  • A Satisfied Customer Written by Barbara Burgess

It is always nice when Warrenville welcomes new businesses to town. However, I must admit I usually don’t pay too much attention unless I need the service the business provides.

Although there is concern for underground water reservoirs in Nebraska, this is not the only objection that environmentalists have to the Keystone XL Pipe line proposed to carry oil from Canada to Texas.

  • VC is Hypocritical Written by Scott Shaw

I am responding to, and have a question for managing editor, George Safford. Why is it okay for Mr. Safford to insult the Chronicles readers, but it is not okay for us to have an opportunity to properly defend ourselves? Your editorial policy is a disgrace to free and open speech.
