In our last issue, we covered blogging and its benefits to the community. We discussed in detail the View All Blogs entries, along with View Your Blogs or Write a Blog. We also showed you how manage your blogs by going to View your own Blogs. This is where you can edit, delete, publish or unpublish any of your blogs.

This tutorial will discuss blogs in more detail, with the emphasis on Write a Blog and View all Blogs. There are many features in these two areas that will make reading and finding the blogs much more enjoyable. As more of you begin to blog, the View All Blogs area will become more and more congested. By learning how to Tag your Blogs or Search for Specific Blogs, it will make it much easier for you to find the blogs you are seeking, whether it be by author or subject.

When you choose “Write a Blog,” a canvas will be presented to you. The Publish and Unpublish options were discussed last week along with the Publish date and Category. If you look below the Category option you will notice there are a few more features, specifically Tags, Images & Documents, Search older posts and Trackbacks & Comments.

Tags are by far the most useful feature in creating a blog. It allows you to categorize your blogs by topics so they are easy to find within the website by anyone. To apply a Tag to your blog, you first need to click on the Tag option. It will open, displaying two choices--Assign or Browse. If you click on the Browse option, you will be presented with a list of all of the default tags that are available by subject. Just choose the one that pertains to the subject of your blog. If none of these fits, you can always create your own tag by entering one in the Add new tag text box under the Assign option (remember to click on the green plus sign to save your tag).

To demonstrate how to use tags, let’s use an example. I have created a tag for my blogs containing these tutorial articles. It is called VC Tutorials. So when you are viewing the blog area, all you need to do is click on the Tags option at the top of the page. This will show you a listing of all the Tagged Blogs. In this list, you will see the VC Tutorial tag as well as a Request tag that was created. When you click on either of these Tags, it will take you to all of the articles that have been posted under the Tag chosen. As you can see this is one of the quickest ways to find any blog that you may want to view.

Another way to find all of the VC Tutorial Blogs that have been created is using the Search feature located next to the Tag option. This feature will present you with a search box where you can search for blogs by Keywords within a blog title, a particular blogger, or by a Tag.

Images & Documents allows you to upload images and documents into your blog for others to view or download if they wish. To upload an image you need to click the Images & Documents option. You will be presented with two tabs--Browse and Upload. After you choose the upload tab, click the Browse button. Then search on your computer to where your document or image is located and click on the Upload button. This will put the image into your library and into the blog.

The other two options, Search older posts and Trackbacks & Comments will be discussed in Part 3 of the “There She Blog’s” tutorials, so stay tuned. We will also discuss the Feed option on the View all Blogs screen as well as the View your Blog screen.

Until then, “Happy Clicking,” and as always if you have any questions concerning the VillageChronicles.net website, send them to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

  • Election Day Cowardice Written by Pam Gallagher

Tuesday evening, March 20, after completing a long tiring day as a democratic election judge from 5:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Johnson School, I walked out to my car in the parking lot and sadly discovered two 1.5" x 3" business cards left on the right and left door windows of my vehicle with the Obama campaign logo and the printed words: "Hi, I saw your Obama sticker and I want to thank you for letting the village know who the idiot is."
