Warrenville Joins Cool City Program On Jan. 17, Mayor David Brummel signed the US Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement thereby officially joining Warrenville to the Sierra Club’s Cool Cities Program, an initiative led by volunteers around the country, striving for collaboration among “community members, organizations, businesses, and local leaders to implement clean energy solutions that save money, create jobs, and help curb global warming.

Violet Barbara Rice (nee Busch), 87, a resident of Warrenville, formerly of Glen Ellyn, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009 at Tabor Hills Healthcare Facility in Naperville.

Loving wife of the late Ralph R. Rice, whom she married Aug. 10, 1940; beloved mother of Gerald (Diane) Rice, Sharon (Arthur) Worrell, Carol Ann (Walter) Mika, Daniel (Debra) Rice, Dennis (Kathy) Rice, Mary (Tim Dietzel) Rice and Debra Herman; adored grandmother of 23; cherished great-grandmother of 23; great-great grandmother of one; devoted daughter of the late Harry and Ida Busch; dear sister of the late Lillian (the late Bill) Neumann, Esther (the late Tom) Hall, and John and Harvey Busch.

Violet was a devoted homemaker to her large family. She was a longtime member of St. Irene Catholic Church in Warrenville and was an active volunteer, helping senior citizens with programs such as Meals on Wheels.

Visitation Tuesday, Aug. 25, 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St. (Naperville). Additional visitation Wednesday, Aug. 26, 9:00-9:45 a.m. at St. Irene Catholic Church, 28w531 Warrenville Rd.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Irene Catholic Church.

Interment St. Michael Cemetery, (Wheaton).

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Warrenville Youth and Family Services.
