Kids enjoyed a day of everything “Alice,” at the Warrenville Library on March 6. Youth services librarian, Cindy Ruzicka, designed the program to coincide with the national movie theater opening of Tim Burton’s, “Alice in Wonderland.”

The children were invited to get their faces painted with Miss Kate, decorate butterflies with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, walk through the rose garden with The Queen of Hearts, and make necklaces with the March Hare.A_in_W_Photo_2

Youth volunteers, Robbie Stanley, 15, and Matthew Dudak, 13, made sure rabbit hole guests enjoyed tea cakes and lemonade. Special guests included cast members from Acorn Theater’s Alice in Wonderland production held last November. Director Jen Logan was also present to celebrate the wonderland activities with guests.

Among the characters present were Deborah Langland of Schaumburg, who portrayed the Queen of Hearts, Emily Mixter, 11, as Alice, and Nicole Rehtmeyer, 12, as the caterpillar. Cast members and guests mingled and snacked as they enjoyed the party, smiling like the Cheshire Cat the entire time.

Acorn Theater’s next production is “Seussical,” with auditions to be held April 23 and 24. For additional information, check the website at www.wmcproductions.com.

Also, be sure to stop by the Warrenville Public Library for a list of its youth and adult programs, or check the website, www.Warrenville.com and click on the Warrenville Library link.

In the very near future, the Food and Drug Administration may approve over-the-counter sale of rapid HIV-tests. This would be the first significant change in either policy or technology in the fight against HIV since the introduction of effective treatments more than 15 years ago.

  • Election Day Cowardice Written by Pam Gallagher

Tuesday evening, March 20, after completing a long tiring day as a democratic election judge from 5:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Johnson School, I walked out to my car in the parking lot and sadly discovered two 1.5" x 3" business cards left on the right and left door windows of my vehicle with the Obama campaign logo and the printed words: "Hi, I saw your Obama sticker and I want to thank you for letting the village know who the idiot is."

The thorium cleanup along the West Branch of the DuPage River reached my property last fall. I was hesitant to let around a dozen beautiful trees be taken out, but I believed in the greater good of removing thorium from this area, including my property.
