UMCW Selects Women of the Year.
The UMCW (United Methodist and Congregational Women) of the First United Methodist and First Congregational Church announced Kris Christiansen as the 2009 Women of the Year at the annual salad luncheon, held on Saturday, Aug. 29. This award recognizes outstanding service to both the UMCW and to the church. Kris is an active UMCW member. She supports UMCW events, projects and serves the Lions. She counts and records the weekly offering, weeds an island in the church parking lot, volunteers for PADS, volunteers to clean the church cuts the grass, and is a member of and secretary for the church board of trustees. She will receive a special recognition pin, and a donation to missions will be made in her name. The UMCW meet on the first Saturday of the month at 9:30 a.m. for breakfast, a program and a business meeting at 643 E. Washington St. (West Chicago). The UMCW plans and host a variety of fund-raising events to support world, national and local relief efforts throughout the year that include the ever-popular annual rummage sale in August and the annual bazaar and lunch in November. It also collects hats, mittens and gloves to be distributed to children in District 33, collects and donates needed supplies for Life Spring Ministries, makes and donates breast pillows to surgical patients at Central DuPage Hospital, and adopts an area family at Christmas, etc. All women in the community are welcome to attend meetings and support these mission projects. UMCW Hosts Program—To Every Tribe Ministries.
The United Methodist and Congregational Women will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 9:30 a.m. at 643 E. Washington St. (West Chicago). Margie Sanford is the director of communications and member care for To Every Tribe Ministries. Her husband, Ron Sanford, is the executive director. They were called to this mission after he served as pastor for Faith Community Church in West Chicago. The mission is to plant churches for the unreached people groups within the interior regions of Papua New Guinea and Mexico. All women in the community are welcome to attend this meeting. Breakfast will be available starting at 9:30 a.m., with the presentation to follow at 10:00 a.m. Come hear and respond to the inspirational words of Margie Sanford.
