SAY NO TO THE CITY OF WARRENVILLE GARDEN TAX! This month I was informed that the City of Warrenville is imposing an ordinance agreement with homeowners who have landscaping on city easement property around the city. It is called the Landscape License and Covenant Agreement. According to Warrenville’s Code Enforcement Officer it is a recently formed city wide ordinance, all residents in Warrenville, Illinois who have any landscaping  on easement property will be asked to sign the agreement and pay the fee, giving Warrenville control over what is put on your easement property. The fee is currently $35 to the city and approximately $40 to the county.

Warrenville 7-8 Grade Lady Cagers Win League Title The 2011-12 Quad City seventh and eighth Grade Girls Basketball League concluded its tournament and season Jan. 8 at Glenbard North High School, and the Warrenville Penguins finished the season undefeated at 12-0.

Friends of the West Chicago Public Library District (FOL) will hold its annual book sale, Friday, March 9 and Saturday March 10, from 9 a.m. to 4:30  p.m. at the library, 118 West Washington Street, West Chicago.  The proceeds from the sale are used to support special library purchases and events.

The DuPage Art League is proud to present the watercolors of Hugh Skibbens in a special show thru the month of Febuary. This collection of paintings captures the beauty of winter days as seen thru the eyes of an artist. On display are many of his barns and country scenes rendered with subtle colors and remarkable detail.

Friends of the Fourth Begins Planning

The Friends are happy to announce the Theme for the 2012 July 4 celebration is “Made in the U.S.A.

 

The first two meetings of the Friends on Jan. 10 and Feb. 7 at City Hall began planning Warrenville’s 2012 celebration.  Vivian Lund will be the Parade Chair again this year. The Parade will be at 6:00 p.m. on July 3.
The First Division Museum at Cantigny Park is pleased to announce its 2012 Research Fellow.  Dr. John C. McManus, Associate Professor of U.S. Military History, Missouri University of Science and Technology, will research how and why the 1st Infantry Division, U.S. Army, succeeded on D-Day, June 6, 1944.

The West Chicago Cultural Arts Commission is extending the deadline for submissions for the Community Banner Project of 2012.  Entries will be accepted through February 15, 2012 for the theme America - Who We Are.

Cantigny Park Announces Top Three Photo Contest Winners

Cantigny Park visitors voted and the results are in! The grand prize winners of the 2010 Cantigny in Focus amateur photo contest are: First Place: Mary Lemak, Batavia, for her summery image of the new fountain garden located east of the Cantigny Park Visitors Center. Second Place: Chris Edwards, Sugar Grove, for his artful capture of the Lion of Cantigny statue on a rainy morning in late May. Third Place: Fran Lawless, Batavia, for her touching photo of Army veteran and Chaplain George Knapp, now deceased, taken at the 65th anniversary of D-Day ceremony on June 6, 2009.

ESDA Training

Class is currently scheduled to begin Thursday Feb. 9 at 7:00 p.m. and runs every Thursday for 10 weeks. The class is free to all Warrenville residents.
