A River Without Water—Temporarily

Written by Staff Writer

Right in our own backyard—we can see a rare feat of engineering—man harnessing the power and flow of a river.

Take a walk down the prairie path east of Batavia Rd. At the bridge you see when you cross the river on Butterfield Rd there are huge diesel engines sucking the river into a pipe. The water is moved downstream in the pipe below a temporary wall structure and again released into the river. A huge section of river is without water; trucks and men scurry about digging in the river bottom.

Rains Revive City Flood Issues

Written by Crystal Lynn

At the Aug. 2 Warrenville City Council meeting, resident Mike Moses angrily admonished the city for not doing enough to stop Warrenville from flooding, but Mayor David Brummel countered, saying that the city is doing all it can.

Moses said the West Branch of the DuPage River, which abuts his Iroquois Ct. South backyard, floods more frequently with less rain than it did when he first moved into his home in Feb. 1978.

On July 19, Central DuPage Hospital (CDH) cancer patients began receiving treatment at a new state-of-the-art facility conveniently located near Route 88 on Weaver Pkwy. in Warrenville.

“Our goal is to offer everything we can for cancer patients and their families in a convenient location so they don’t have to travel for care or the critical support services they need,” says Executive Vice President Mike Vivoda. “Cancer patients will have access to the latest in treatment technology and the support services that will make their lives more comfortable.”

A misinterpretation required the Warrenville City Council to vote again on July 12 to recommend spending $15,000 in improvements for the Bob Walters Commons.

At the June 21 regular city council meeting, City Attorney David Freeman allowed Mayor David Brummel to break a 3-to-3 tie in favor of the project. Later, Freeman realized this was procedurally incorrect and informed City Administrator John Coakley.

  • Bright Future for Cenacle Property Written by Jim Kleinwachter

I have read the thoughts of some other readers on the appearance of the Cenacle property,  and I felt the need to add my views. The [DuPage County Forest Preserve District] is in the process of naturalizing the property. For hundreds of years the Cenacle property was an Oak Savannah. At some point [not too long ago], the landscape under the Oak trees became mowed grass.

Brummel, Mayor, 7/23/2010). I also read the article by Mayor Brummel regarding his former big red truck.

  • Fawell Dam Impedes Warrenville Drainage Written by Michael Hoffmann

When I bought my property in 1985, it was not in a flood plain. It became flood plain in 2003. FEMA never notified me of this; I found out through a realtor. Having flood plain on my property has devastated its value.
