Warrenville Park District’s Athletic Summer Camps

Get a head start on your training by attending one of Warrenville Park District’s youth camps. 

Bitty Basketball Camp (grades 1-2) will teach fundamentals through practice, drills and games.  8 ft. hoops and junior-size balls are used. Program runs on Mondays 6/11-7/9 from 6:45-7:45pm in the Community Building gym. Fee is $45 res $50 non-res.

Details of West Chicago’s annual Memorial Day Observance have been announced. The Observance will take place on Monday, May 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sailors and Soldiers Monument in Oakwood Cemetery, located at Oakwood Avenue and York Street.
The library offers several programs for adult patrons. To register, click on the program calendar at www.warrenville.com or call the Circulation Desk at 630/393-1171 x100. The library is located at 28W751 Stafford Place in Warrenville.

Summer Reading Program for Youth

June 1 – July 30, Ages 2 – 17 Youth and Teens can win prizes for reading a minimum of 6 hours this Summer. Students can pick up a reading log at the Information Desk or print off a copy from our website beginning June 1.

If you want something done, ask a Scout troop. That’s what the West Chicago Blooming Fest committee found when the subject of spring planting and downtown beautification came up at a recent meeting.

Changes to signature second hole enhance playability and the environment   

For avid Cantigny golfers, the long wait is almost over!  Cantigny Golf today announced that its Woodside course will open for play on May 25, just in time for Memorial Day weekend.

Correction Notice:

In the past two issues we have incorrectly stated the public hearings before the City Council concerning Electrical Aggregation were scheduled for May 14 and May 29 at 7 PM prior to each of those City Council Meetings. The May 14th meeting date was correct. The second pulbic hearing date is Monday, May 21 at 7 PM in City Council chambers. We regret the error.

Sunday and holiday concerts are back, plus four Saturday shows for kids

Cantigny Park is once again the leading west-suburban venue for free summer concerts!  Starting Memorial Day weekend, 17 bands representing a wide variety of musical genres will entertain guests on Sunday afternoons and on Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.

    Tuesday evening, March 20, after completing a long tiring day as a democratic election judge from 5:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Johnson School, I walked out to my car in the parking lot and sadly discovered two 1.5" x 3" business cards left on the right and left door windows of my vehicle with the Obama campaign logo and the printed words: "Hi, I saw your Obama sticker and I want to thank you for letting the village know who the idiot is."

    The thorium cleanup along the West Branch of the DuPage River reached my property last fall. I was hesitant to let around a dozen beautiful trees be taken out, but I believed in the greater good of removing thorium from this area, including my property.
