Correction Notice:

In the past two issues we have incorrectly stated the public hearings before the City Council concerning Electrical Aggregation were scheduled for May 14 and May 29 at 7 PM prior to each of those City Council Meetings. The May 14th meeting date was correct. The second pulbic hearing date is Monday, May 21 at 7 PM in City Council chambers. We regret the error.

“What It Means To Be A Tiger”

WWSHS student Natalia Mleczko of Warrenville was one of the PAWS Scholarship winners.

At its regular meeting on May 7, the West Chicago City Council unanimously appointed Alderman Ruben Pineda, 52, the first Hispanic mayor in the city’s 140-year history.

At its regular meeting May 7, the Warrenville City Council announced that information sessions implementing the Electrical Aggregation Program will be held at the beginning of the two City Council meetings scheduled for May 14 and 28. Residents with questions or in need of information should attend at least one of these two sessions.

The newly-formed DuPage Veterans Foundation had an ambitious objective last Saturday, May 5, when it held its inaugural fundraiser at DuPage County Airport in West Chicago.

Its goal was to raise $55,000, the amount necessary to send one Honor Flight of 100 veterans to Washington, D.C., to tour the National World War II Memorial.

So Much Going On

There is change in the air. Spring came early, then winced back to late winter; luckily no snow or ice!

But warmth is coming back, trees are leafing out, so are bushes and lilies and so many flowers. Lawns are green and filling in bare spots. Streets have been washed free of winter’s salt by plentiful spring rains. Mother Nature is ready for full spring and early summer.

The First Division Museum at Cantigny Park has chosen two high school history teachers to attend a unique educational and professional development exercise that will be delivered on location in Sicily. This bi-national study will take them through battle sites of the American and Canadian forces during the World War II Sicilian Campaign in 1943.

The West Chicago Police Department announced that Campaign #3 of the Illinois Department of Transportation funded grant was successful in educating the motoring public on Seatbelt Safety and Awareness. The campaign ran from March 12 - 20, 2012 and resulted in 105 citations being issued, 20 of which were for Seat Belt and Child Safety seat violations and 1 DUI arrest.

West Chicago Community High School Adult Education Program, 326 Joliet Street, West Chicago, will be offering FREE Citizenship Preparation Classes starting Tuesday May 15, 2012.
