Hope Presbyterian Church Enters into Muslim/Presbyterian (PCUSA) Dialogue. On October 25, 2009, the Presbytery of Chicago (PCUSA) entered into a covenant agreement with the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago. The covenant declares 2009/2010 as a year of Muslim/Presbyterian dialogue, for the expansion of understanding and relationship, of friendship and discovery between our two religious communities. The covenant pledges both parties to be in regular, pro-active and intentional dialogue, at local and regional events, between mosques and churches.

Pastor Jeff Kamphausen was sitting in silent prayer in the front row of Blanchard Alliance Church when he suffered a seizure that lasted at least two minutes during Sunday worship on June 20.

Luckily, several members of the newest church in Warrenville were retired police and fire department employees who knew exactly how to respond as his wife, children, and church members watched in shock.

Marty Haugen’s hymn “All Are Welcome” describes the spirit of Trinity Lutheran Church, which has served Warrenville and the surrounding area for more than 68 years.

During that period, the expansion of its ministry has largely coincided with the expansion of Trinity’s facilities. Its first worship service took place on Jan. 4, 1942 in a school gymnasium. In May of that year, 56 members formally filed for a charter.

Many people associate the Baptist church with a list of no’s—no smoking, no drinking, no dancing, no movies. In other words—no fun.

But according to Rev. Linda Tossey of the Community Baptist Church in Warrenville, her church has been around for 175 years because it has always focused on what can be done instead of what can’t be done.

Haiti

Written by Sr. Joyce Kemp, r.c.
Almost four weeks have passed since the historic earthquake in Haiti Jan. 12. Since I fell and had to be taken to the emergency room on Jan. 11, I have been confined to quarters in order to recover from a concussion and a very black eye! Unable to read, I spent a lot of time watching news of the earthquake on television.

Do You Like to Sing? The First United Methodist and First Congregational Church of West Chicago invite area residents to join the Chancel Choir, directed by Ron Benner. Choir rehearsal resumed on Sept. 2, but the church welcomes new members at any time. You don’t need to read music, although that is always a plus.
