Cantigny Park, part of the McCormick Foundation, invites runners and walkers of all ages to enter the Cantigny 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Nov. 7. The event is held annually in association with Veterans Day.
Net proceeds from the race will benefit the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans, a transitional living facility in Wheaton that provides assistance to U.S. vets in need, including skills for independent living.
Registration for the 9:00 a.m. race is limited to the first 800 entries, up from 700 in 2008. Full registration has been achieved every year since the first Cantigny 5K in 2004.
(The randomly picked) Team A won yet again with a final score of 26 – 20. They were able to stop some big plays early on and get some quick points up on the board. Team B answered by playing with a hurry up offense and also was able to get some turnovers, but there just wasn’t enough time left on the clock for them to catch up and win. Another great game will be played this coming Saturday Oct. 3rd at 2:00pm at Cerny Park in Warrenville. Armchair quarterbacks, this is your time to get off of the couch and show us your stuff! Walk-ons are always welcomed and encouraged! Come on out and play!!
Each team participating in the double elimination tournament has a designated spot in the park for tents and grills.
The concession stands will be open from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday and from 5:00 a.m. to finish on Sunday.
In addition to first and second place trophies, there is a cash prize of $500 for first place and $250 for second place.
The entry fee is $325 for each team, which includes a $25 refundable site deposit. Proceeds benefit Friends of West Chicago Parks Foundation.
Registration deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 16.
Call athletic director Joe Urban at (630) 231-9474 to register or for further information.
